Street Closures and Event Information
Events occur in downtown Lexington throughout the calendar year. Event organizers must apply for an event permit with the City and receive approval in order to effectuate an event. Many of these events, such as 5K runs, parades, and festivals require street closure. To apply for an event in Lexington, complete the online Event Application or contact the City Manager's Office at 540-462-3700 or jhostetter@lexingtonva.gov.
Upcoming Planned Road Closures in Lexington
Thursday 10/31/2024: The following streets will be blocked or have limited passage:
- From 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Main Street from Preston Street to Henry Street
- Nelson Street from Randolph Street to Jefferson Street
- Washington Street from Randolph Street to Jefferson Street
Thursday 10/31/2024: The following streets will be blocked or have limited passage:
- From 4:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
- Jackson Avenue from West Preston Street to Ross Road
- Street barricades to be set up to block Jackson Ave. at each intersection. The intersecting streets of Preston, McDowell, White, Jordan and Ross will remain open to vehicular traffic. These intersections will be monitored by volunteers (wearing reflective vests) who will help pedestrians to safely cross the intersections.
Friday 11/29/2024: The following streets will be blocked or have limited passage:
- From 5:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.:
- Main Street from Oak Grove Cemetery to Washington Street
- Washington Street from Main Street to Jefferson Street
- Jefferson Street from Washington Street to Hopkin's Green
Friday 12/6/2024: The following streets will be blocked or have limited passage:
- From 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.:
- Main Street from Wallace Street to VMI
- Houston Street from Miller Street to Main Street
- Taylor Street from Houston Street to Waddell Street
- Wallace Street from Main Street to Waddell Street
- Spotswood Drive from Preston Street to Houston Street
Saturday 12/7/2024: The following streets will be blocked or have limited passage:
- From 7:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.: Nelson Street from Main Street to Davidson Street
- From 8:45 a.m. to10:00 a.m.: Main Street at Nelson Street intersection
Monday 1/20/2025: The following streets will be blocked or have limited passage:
- From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.:
- Parade would begin outside of Randolph Street United Methodist Church.
- Randolph Street from the church until Preston Street
- Preston Street from Randolph Street to Main Street
- Main Street from Preston Street to Henry Street
- Henry Street from Main Street to Jefferson Street
- Jefferson Street from Henry Street to Preston Street
- Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Randolph Street; parade ends at starting point
- Washington Street from Lee Avenue to Nelson Street
- Washington Street from Lee Avenue to Nelson Street
