On September 2, 2021, Lexington City Council approved an ordinance enacting a cigarette tax in the City of Lexington.  The tax is $0.25 per pack to be effective JANUARY 1, 2022.  On November 1, 2021 information was sent to local businesses and/or their corporate offices that have indicated they sell cigarettes in their Lexington retail stores.  The City of Lexington’s cigarette stamp must be affixed on all cigarette packages by the tax effective date of JANUARY 1, 2022.  If you sell cigarettes in your Lexington business and did not receive the information that was sent out on November 1, 2021, please contact the Lexington Commissioner of the Revenue’s office immediately at 540-462-3701.
