Parks
The Public Works Department maintains all municipal property devoted to recreational use. Within the city, the department maintains three large parks, three neighborhood parks, an athletic field complex and swimming pool, and two city school athletic fields. All of the facilities are open to the residents of the city and the Rockbridge County area. The parks (excluding Kids Playce) may be reserved through the Public Works Office by calling (540)463-3154 to verify that the date is available and then submitting the recreation form online.
The department also maintains a 500-acre-plus site on Brushy Hills and a 59.587-acre site at Moore's Creek Dam in Rockbridge County. The Moore's Creek Dam site is open to the public for passive recreation and for fishing. The Brushy Hills Preserve is open for passive recreation only.
Recreational Sports
Youth and adult sports are coordinated through the Rockbridge Area Recreational Organization (RARO).
Swimming Pool
Friends of Rockbridge Swimming is operating the Lexington municipal pool located at the intersection of Waddell and Wallace Streets, across the street from Maury River Middle School. For information, visit the Friends of Rockbridge Swimming website.
