Woods Creek Community Meeting to present Water Quality Improvement Plan

A meeting to present a Water Quality Improvement Plan for Woods Creek will be held on Wednesday, May 8 at 6:00 pm at the Rockbridge Regional Library's Piovano Room in Lexington (138 South Main Street, Lexington, VA 24450).

Development of the Implementation Plan began with an initial community meeting in October 2018, and since then DEQ has been working with a group of local residents and organizations to identify the best ways to reduce bacteria in Woods Creek. Woods Creek was placed on Virginia's list of impaired waters in 2012 because DEQ's monitoring showed that the creek was not meeting the water quality standard for bacteria, and DEQ completed the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) study for Woods Creek in 2017.

At the meeting a representative from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality will present the draft Implementation Plan, which will be available for the public to review and provide feedback during the 30-day comment period following the meeting date.
