While the 12-inch water line replacement on Main Street from Houston Street to Maiden Lane is scheduled to be finished today, numerous fire, service and transverse water main connections need to be completed in the downtown area before the project is finalized.

Contractors will commence work on the interconnection with the Jefferson Street water main tomorrow, April 17, 2019. The majority of this work will occur in the North Main left turn lane onto Jefferson Street, where the road splits. The current northbound detour on Randolph Street will end, and a southbound detour on Randolph will begin. A temporary two-way traffic pattern will be established on Jefferson Street from Henry Street to Main Street to accommodate Letcher Avenue traffic. This work on the Jefferson Street water main is anticipated to last two days, beginning tomorrow and ending Thursday. UPDATE: due to weather and slowed progress of heavy utilities, much of the trench will have to be hand dug. Traffic will be returned to normal for the weekend, but the detour will be restablished Monday and Tuesday.

The overall water line replacement project is expected to be completed as scheduled by June 28, 2019.
