Date: September 20, 2017

The City of Lexington Fire Department is happy to announce that it has been awarded a grant by the Virginia Department of Health for additional doses of the drug Naloxone which is the antidote for opioid overdoses. Thanks to this grant, which supplies a nasal administration of the drug, all LFD EMS providers, not just Paramedics, will be able to administer this life-saving drug when needed. Opioid overdose is a growing crisis nationwide and LFD in partnership with VDH is being proactive about responding to these types of emergencies.
