Hikers to be Rerouted on Chessie Nature Trail

Hikers using the Chessie Nature Trail will be diverted onto Old Buena Vista Road for a short distance near Route 11. The detour will be in place indefinitely, according to Virginia Military Institute, which manages the trail.

Randolph Street Waterline Improvement

July 5, 2017 

The city has awarded a contract to Atkins Excavating, Inc. to replace the existing water distribution line on Randolph Street from Washington Street to Nelson Street. The project will replace a nearly 100 year old 6-inch cast iron pipe with a new 8-inch ductile iron pipe. A new fire hydrant will be installed and service lines will be replaced as needed.

Enfield Area Wastewater Line Improvement Project

June 19, 2017 

The city has awarded a contract to Aaron J. Conner, General Contractor, Inc. to improve neighborhood wastewater collection lines in the Enfield Road area of the city. Work will be performed on Battery Lane, Confederate Circle, Pickett Street, Lampe Circle, and Willow Lane.

Street Resurfacing

May 30, 2017 

Major street resurfacing will begin at various locations around the City on Tuesday 30 May and take about 30 to 45 calendar days to complete, all weather permitting. Fire Hydrant Flow Testing and Maintenance

March 20, 2017 

On Monday 27 March, a Public Works crew will begin semiannual testing and inspection of fire hydrants throughout the city distribution system. Testing should be complete by the end of the week, but may be delayed by emergencies or weather. If delays occur the work will be completed the week of 3 April. Maintenance consists of checking all valves for proper operation and identifying leaks. All work will be performed during normal work hours, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

The City of Lexington, Virginia will receive SEALED BIDS in the Office of the Department of Public Works, 890 Shop Road, Lexington, Virginia 24450, until Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 11:00 AM, for the “Spring 2017 Street Resurfacing Program”. This project includes 26,333 SY of City Inventory street milling and asphalt paving (nominal 2” SM-9.5A) and 7,726 SY of Non-Inventory street asphalt overlay (nominal 2” SM-9.5AL). Contingency units for undercut, #21A stone base installation, asphalt patching, #21A shoulder replacement, and installation of asphalt berms are included.

East Nelson Street (Route 60) Drainage Improvement Project

January 10, 2017 

The City of Lexington’s E. Nelson Street Drainage Improvement project will commence Tuesday, January 17, 2017. This project involves replacing an aged, structurally deficient, and inadequate 36” storm drain with new and larger pipe. This line crosses E. Nelson Street in the vicinity of the Walker Street intersection, running from just above the Sheetz entrance to the BB&T bank across the street.
