Road Closures and Events Information

Events occur in downtown Lexington throughout the calendar year. Event organizers must apply for an event permit with the City and receive approval in order to effectuate an event. Many of these events, such as 5K runs, parades, and festivals require street closure. Upcoming Planned Road Closures in Lexington: 

Saturday 1/18/2020: At 11:15 a.m. the following streets will be blocked or have limited passage for the Lee-Jackson Day Parade:
- Parade begins at 11:15 a.m. on Main Street in front of the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery; Main Street would be blocked from this point until Washington Street
- Washington Street would be blocked between Main Street and Randolph Street
- Randolph Street would be blocked from Washington Street until the City parking lot behind the County Administration Office

Monday 1/20/2020: From 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. the following streets will be blocked or have limited passage for the C.A.R.E. Parade:
- Parade would begin outside of Randolph Street United Methodist Church
- Randolph Street from the church until Preston Street
- Preston Street from Randolph Street to Main Street
- Main Street from Preston Street to Henry Street
- Henry Street from Main Street to Jefferson Street
- Jefferson Street from Henry Street to Preston Street
- Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Randolph Street; parade ends at starting point

Friday 2/14/2020: at 8:00 a.m. the following rolling street closure for the Mock Convention Parade:
- Parade commences on Wallace Street. Turn right onto Main Street > left on West Washington Street > proceed to East Nelson Street > right on East Denny Circle > left onto “Boneyard”

Saturday 3/28/2020: From 7:00 - noon the following streets will be blocked or have limited passage for the Leprechaun Leap:
- Starting at the RARA Building on Spottswood Drive headed northeast
- Left onto East Nelson Street
- Right on Lee Avenue
- Up the foot path through Washington and Lee University and around VMI Post
- Back onto Letcher Avenue
- Right onto Jefferson Street
- Left onto White Street
- Right onto South Main Street
- Left onto Wallace Street
- Left onto Taylor Street
- Continue on Spotswood Drive 
- Race ends at the RARA Building

Thursday 4/23/2020 (rain date for Friday 4/24/2020): From 10: a.m.- noon the following streets will be blocked or have limited passage for the Live Well W&L 5K Fun Run/Walk:
- Top of the hill at Route 60/Nelson Street in order to guide runners from Denny Circle onto the Route 60/Nelson Street sidewalk
- Intersection of Washington Street and Nelson Street

Saturday 5/9/2020: From 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. thee following streets will be blocked or have limited passage for the Woods Creek Run 4 the KIds Benefit Race:
- Beginning and ending at the Miller House Museum (at the bridge past the museum) in Jordan's Point Park
- Up to VMI from beside the Miller House
- Crossing the road that descends to VMI´s baseball facility
- Descending to go alongside Woods Creek Apartments at Washington & Lee University 
- Crossing Lime Kiln Road passing Lime Kiln Park
- Crossing the Jordan´s Point road at Waddell
- Returning at the bridge across the creek along the same route

 

Friday 7/3/2020: From 4:00 - 11:00 p.m. the following streets will be blocked for the Freedom Food Festival: 
- Main Street from Preston to Washington

Friday 5/8/2020: closure of the following street from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. as part of Washington & Lee's Annual street closures:
- Washington Street from Lee Avenue to Nelson Street

Friday 5/22/2020: closure of the following street from noon until 5:00 p.m. as part of Washington & Lee's Annual street closures:
- Washington Street from Lee Avenue to Nelson Street

Sunday 5/24/2020: closure of the following street from noon until 5:00 p.m. as part of Washington & Lee's Annual street closures:
- Washington Street from Lee Avenue to Nelson Street

Wednesday 5/27/2020: closure of the following street from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. as part of Washington & Lee's Annual street closures:
- Washington Street from Lee Avenue to Nelson Street

Thursday 5/28/2020: closure of the following street from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. as part of Washington & Lee's Annual street closures:
- Washington Street from Lee Avenue to Nelson Street
