2020 Election Information

The voter registration deadline for the November 3rd General Election is October 13, 2020. Registration applications can be completed online at the Virginia Department of Elections website (https://vote.elections.virginia.gov/VoterInformation). Registration applications can also be requested from the Lexington Registrar’s office.  Because of concerns for the health of both public and Officers of Election, voters are encouraged to vote by mail. Voters are encouraged to complete absentee applications for the November 3rd General Election online (https://www.elections.virginia.gov/casting-a-ballot/absentee-voting/)  so that ballots can be mailed to them. Absentee applications can be requested directly from the VA Department of Elections or the Lexington Registrar’s office.   In person absentee voting commences September 18, 2020 and ends Saturday, October 31st at 5:00 PM. The Registrar’s office will be staffed during this time from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Social distancing and face masks are required while voters are in line with no exceptions. Please check the VA Department of Elections website for acceptable IDs which are required. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Lexington Director of Elections at phone 540-462-3706 or 540-461-0535  or via email jyowell@lexingtonva.gov.

Effective July 1, 2020, early voting/in-person absentee voting is now available during the 45 days before an election. Office hours are Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The two Saturdays before each election, in-person absentee voting is also available. Registered voters are encouraged to vote absentee by mail because of COVID-19.
