**Waiver of Penalty and Interest on Meals and Lodging Taxes Collected in March, April and May 2020

The City of Lexington Meals and Transient Occupancy Tax Returns should be submitted to the Commissioner of the Revenue’s office by the due dates indicated on the forms (April 20, 2020 for March Filing, May 20, 2020 for April Filing and June 22, 2020 for May Filing). However, the City of Lexington will waive penalty and Interest for late payment for the March, April, and May 2020 meals and transient occupancy tax returns if the payments are received by June 22, 2020.  If payments for March, April and May 2020 meals and transient occupancy taxes are not received by June 22, 2020 the 3% dealer’s discounts will be revoked and penalty and interest will be added to the delinquent taxes due.

The commissioner of revenue, as a representative of the City of Lexington and the Commonwealth of Virginia, serves our community by:

  • Fairly, accurately, and in accordance with the law assessing property taxes and administering tax relief
  • Providing accurate and useful statistical information with which city officials and community members can make decisions
  • Facilitating understanding of applicable tax laws and procedures
  • Fairly, but aggressively, administering business taxes
  • Striving to continuously improve ourselves, our organization, and our procedures to better serve the citizens of Lexington
